Around the world there are just a handful of programs that deal with breeding bananas, mostly, and traditionally in isolation. This project is unique in that for the first time many of these researchers have combined their efforts under this endeavour towards a common and purposeful goal. Banana breeding researchers from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Czech Republic, India, Malaysia, Tanzania, Uganda and USA are involved, to concentrate their combined expertise in this field, towards improving this hugely important crop for the East African Region:
